Opening of Stories Grounded in Color by Michael McConnell
Visual narratives through which the artist examines the space between memory and nostalgia.

We've followed San Francisco-based artist Michael McConnell for many years and are thrilled to welcome him to Poet and/the Bench. We love how the animals in his paintings take on human characteristics, the layered meanings in his abstract and graphic landscapes, and how he creates relationships within the color palette—taking interest in how colors can provoke a mood, a feeling, or grounding.

Solstice. A coyote in motion. We're struck by the emotionality that sits both on the surface and deep beneath. Without always knowing the symbology present in a piece, you can feel the resonance artist Michael McConnell has with living things.

Michael paints in acrylic on wood panels. Over the years, as his narratives have evolved, we've been struck by the emotionality that sits both on the surface and deep beneath. Without always knowing the symbology present in a piece, you can feel the resonance Michael has with living things.
